Full Professorship in Modern English Linguistics (succession of Prof. Dr. Richard J. Watts)

Applicants will be expected to cover the whole field of Modern English Linguistics with a special emphasis on socio-linguistics. The successful applicant should be willing to co-operate with other linguistic disciplines in the Faculty and the Bernese Center for Studies in Language and Society, which will be launched on 1 August 2008, and as co-director of the department will be expected to be involved in academic administration. A good working knowledge of German is therefore indispensable. Previous experience in negotiating external funding of research projects is essential.

Academic requirements for this position are a completed PhD plus a “Habilitation” or equivalent qualifi cations (e.g. a second book).
