Verbal morphology and the historical comparison of the Trans-Eurasian languagesVon: gna03 - 04 September Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz The historical relationship of Japanese, Korean, the Tungusic languages, the Mongolic languages and the Turkic languages is among the most disputed issues of historical linguistics. The objective of this working-group is to bring together European historical linguists to compare these languages, referred to as Trans-Eurasian, from a diachronic point of view with a focus on verbal morphology. Besides the search for concrete cognates, some topics open for discussion are the different determinants of linguistic similarity such as borrowing, universals, chance, genetic retention; typological similarity; stability and borrowability of verbal morphology in general etc. You are very welcome to take part in the discussions or to submit an abstract for presentation.
