Assistant-Professor in Educational Sciences (m/f)

with an emphasis on learning and development from a social and cultural perspective

Full-time (40h/week)

The successful candidate will join the Unit for Sociocultural Research on Learning and Development (Research Unit LCMI. Language, Culture, Media and Identities, www.lcmi.lu ) which is concerned with the analysis of situated processes of learning and development in multilingual and multicultural contexts.

S/he will join the study programmes in the field of Educational Sciences of the Faculty and particularly be involved in developing modules about learning in the innovative Bachelor in Educational Sciences.

 

Profile

The successful candidate holds a relevant doctorate (PhD), extended post-doctoral qualification in research and teaching in one of the following fields, their intersections or domains of specialisation:

* educational sciences

* cultural psychology (socio-cultural/historical strand)

* communication

* interactional studies

* learning and knowledge transfer approaches.

The profile is substantially concerned with the analysis of learning inside/outside institutional settings, deploying a cultural and social perspective on processes of human development.

 

Expertise in data-driven methodologies for analysing learning and knowledge transfer in its emergence and the interrelation of different domains of learning (e.g., multimodal and plurilingual learning, domain-/age-/group-specific reasoning) is considered being a prerequisite for the position in order to allow for documenting and analyzing development in its most comprehensive set-up.

 

The successful candidate displays international expertise and a proven record of research activities with regard to such areas as

* the interdisciplinary nature of learning and development, its comprehensive analysis and implementation (within educational settings for example) within individual / societal profiles.

* the analysis of learning and development with a special focus on domain-specific developments and their interrelations, correlations, multi-variate dependencies;

* multi-modal / multi-medial multi-lingual settings of knowledge-building and/or specific groups (e.g., age, societal, migrant), items of learning (e.g., linguistic, technical) or problematic dimensions of learning;

* methodological and theoretical issues of analyzing the situated nature of learning and development in shared activities based on multiple data-grounds (video, audio, multi-perspective) and their epistemologically grounded documentation and exploitation in digital systems of data-bases and systematic data-treatment;

* theories of educational knowledge and knowledge transfer in educational settings

 

Furthermore, the successful candidate will

* be experienced in developing and managing research structures, project-teams involving external partners (private, public) and applied research-for-study programs, * bring along a proven record of teaching at all relevant academic levels (undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate) as well as in the development of experts and professionals in education,

* be committed to the enhancement and implementation of research within the University of Luxembourg Priority Research Program P6 - Building Excellence in Education, that is in particular, the sustained construction of the "Luxembourg Centre of Excellence in Learning",

 

As the candidate has to integrate into a multilingual research team, she/he has excellent command (written and spoken) of at least two of the following languages: French, German, English. Excellent self-management skills, intercultural and inter-institutional awareness as well as a spirit of team-work are a prerequisite for this position. Moreover, an understanding of the Luxembourg education system would be highly appreciated.
