The Department of Linguistics at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, invites applications for a doctoral research assistant position in pragmatics. The successful candidate will be part of a group whose research focuses on machine translation of pragmatic phenomena. The candidate will participate in a Swiss-­‐funded project on the modeling of inter-­‐sentential dependencies (connectives, anaphora, verbal tenses. etc) to improve the output of machine translation systems for the English / French pair.

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, invites applications for a post-­‐doctoral position in corpus linguistics, with applications to natural language processing. The successful candidate will be part of a group whose research focuses on machine translation of pragmatic phenomena. The candidate will participate in the COMTIS SNSF project on the modeling of inter-­‐sentential dependencies (connectives, anaphora, verbal tenses. etc) to improve the output of machine translation systems for the English / French pair. The tasks associated to the position will include the selection of corpora, the definition of annotation guidelines for markers of inter-­‐sentential dependencies, the design of tools for their semi-­‐automatic location, and the supervision of human annotators. The overall goal is to deliver an annotated resource to be used for statistical learning by other COMTIS partners.
