Financial support of scientific events

The VALS-ASLA financially supports the organization of scientific events of which the content is in line with the Association's focus, i.e. applied linguistics in all its forms.

 1.- By scientific event, we understand:

The organization of a conference or a workshop bringing together researchers on a topic in applied linguistics.

The three following categories are taken into account:

a. the VALS-ASLA annual conference;

b. a workshop or conference organized on a topic in applied linguistics, particularly by or for young researchers ;

c. a workshop or a conference directly related to the activities of the Association and organized by or for the VALS-ASLA special interest groups ;

2.- Proposals to be examined.

The request for financial support is examined based on a formal proposal containing two items:

a. a description of the event, including a provisional program;

b.    a detailed budget, including the mention of other financial sources being called for.

3.- Financial support.

The VALS-ASLA is able to invest a maximum of CHF 10'000.- per year to support the organization of scientific events. A given event can be supported within the following range:

a. the VALS-ASLA  annual conference: CHF 3000.- to CHF 5000.- ;

b. a workshop or conference organized on a topic in applied linguistics, particularly by or for young researchers: CHF 500.- to CHF 1500.- 

c. a workshop or a conference directly related to the activities of the Association and organized by or for the VALS-ASLA interest groups: CHF 500.- to CHF 1500.-

4.- Examination of the proposals and notification.

Requests for support are examined by the VALS-ASLA executive board, in the order of their submission, during one of the board's three annual meetings. The executive board notifies the applicant of its decision as soon as possible.
